Andy Burnham won a third term in office at the Greater Manchester mayoral elections when the results were revealed in the city centre today (May 4).

Mr Burnham won more than 420,000 votes, or 63.4 per cent, winning in all boroughs including where the Labour Party are not in control of the council.

There was opposition from Jake Austin (LIB), Dan Barker (REF), Nick Buckley (IND), Laura Evans (CON) and Hannah Spencer (GRN) but, although the metro mayor's vote share fell four percentage points from the last mayoral election, none of them came close when the results were revealed at Manchester Central Convention Complex in the city centre on Saturday.

Ms Evans won 68,946 votes, or 10.4 per cent, to hold second place against the other parties but her vote share halved from the last mayoral election.

Mr Burnham said: "There is no better city-region than the one we live in. This is why being elected to represent it for the third time is everything to me. 

"I've never given anything less than my all to this role. I've tried to be there for all of the communities in the city-region and I promise to do so again. "

Unlike last time when Mr Burnham won in every council ward in the city-region it is understood this time Mr Burnham won in all but one council ward in the city-region – Werneth, Oldham.

In a speech he set out some of his priorities including the Bee Network, the benefits system, economy and education, appealing to the government to deliver devolution to Greater Manchester.

Mr Burnham said: "I am ready to fight harder than I've fought for anything for a Greater Manchester where everyone is free from fear and everyone is set up to be a part of our success story.

"Greater Manchester will continue to lead the way and we will do it together."

Laura Evans - Conservative - 68,946 - 10.4 per cent
Nick Buckley - Independent - 50,304 - 7.6 per cent
Dan Barker - Reform UK - 49,532 - 7.5 per cent
Hannah Spencer - Green - 45,905 - 6.9 per cent
Jake Austin - Liberal Democrat - 28,195 - 4.2 per cent
