The opening date of an Asda store is set in stone after the shutdown of a Booths store on the same site.

The Hale Barns high-end supermarket shut last month after almost a decade in business on Hale Road.

It opened to considerable ceremony almost 10 years ago but in an announcement EH Booth & Co Ltd said an increase in costs led to a loss of profitability.

A spokesperson said all of the staff were to be transferred via TUPE and they said none of their other stores throughout the North West were under threat.

They said: "Closing any store is a difficult decision and it is not a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our team at Hale Barns or across the wider business.

"We would like to thank colleagues and customers for their support. We would like to provide some reassurance we have no plans to exit any of our other stores."

The opening date of the Asda store is set in stone for May 28 according to an announcement this week.

The opening times are between 7am and 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am and 4pm on Sundays.

Feroz Patel, Asda's Vice President for Retail Central, said: "We are delighted to be able to confirm the opening date of our Hale Barns store. This opening marks another milestone moment for us as we bring Asda's uncompromising value to even more customers and take another step towards meeting our ambition of becoming the UK's number two supermarket by market share.

"Work on the store is well underway and we are excited about joining the Hale Barns community and sharing more details on our exciting plans in the coming weeks."

Although work on the store is well underway an application for advertisement consent is undetermined on the Trafford Council planning portal at the time of writing.

A spokesperson said the store is anticipating the approval of advertisement consent "soon".
