Trafford: Where's Andy Burnham most and least popular?

The metro mayor won a third term in office with more than 420,000 votes, or 63.4 per cent of the vote, when the results were revealed on May 4.

Mr Burnham won in all but one council ward in the city-region – Werneth, Oldham – but figures from the Greater Manchester mayoral elections released last week show the share of the vote in each council ward.

In Trafford they show he is most popular in Sale Central with 74 per cent of the vote and he is least popular in Hale Barns and Timperley South with 46 per cent of the vote.

The position of these council wards is no surprise as, in the council chamber, Sale Central has three Labour Party councillors. In contrast Hale Barns and Timperley South has no Labour Party councillors.

On May 4, Mr Burnham told The Messenger it is important to listen to where the share of the vote is lower.

He said: "I think the elections are about listening and sometimes messages need to be sent via via the elections. 

"There is a reason why people vote they way they vote so I go there to understand it and to work with people."
