A popular Urmston restaurant is closing down "with immediate effect" after it became "untenable" to keep it open.
Proost, on Crofts Bank Road in central Urmston, is the highest rated Urmston restaurant on Tripadvisor, however it will now close down due to the "current economic climate" and "illness in the family".
In a post on Facebook yesterday (Wednesday, May 22), it shared the news with customers.
The post read: "With extremely heavy hearts, we regret to announce that Proost will be closing its doors with immediate effect.
"Due to multiple factors, it has become impossible for us to keep the business going.
"We are incredibly grateful to all of our staff whose hard work has enabled us to maintain the treasured position of Urmston's number one restaurant on TripAdvisor for over 4 years."
Continuing, the restaurant said: "Sadly, due to the current economic climate and illness in the family it is just untenable for us to continue at this moment in time but hopefully better times will come in the future which may enable us to bring something to the community again.
"We want to assure you that we are actively working on the best way to address and resolve any issues related to outstanding gift vouchers.
"Our goal is to find a fair and satisfactory solution for all our valued customers. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time and we will provide more detailed information as soon as possible."
The restaurant also thanked customers for their support and the "friendships and memories" made over the years.
More than 200 comments have been left on the post, with many people saying they were "gutted", "devastated" and "very sorry" to hear the news.
The closure comes just weeks after another popular eatery next door to Proost on Crofts Bank Road, The Cheese Court, announced it would be shutting down as well.
