The Stretford “Name the Square” project
The Stretford town centre team have been thrilled by the fantastic responses from the Stretford community during the first phase of the “Name the Square” initiative. The team have thoroughly enjoyed reading through all of the thoughtful and creative responses and they now have the difficult task of deciding on the shortlisted entries.
June Stretford Socials
This month’s Stretford Socials, taking place on 1st June, will be one for the history books as the community are given the opportunity to have their say on the final name for the new public square. Choosing their favourite from a choice of three shortlisted entries, attendees can vote in person at the town centre polling station, or via an online form / social media poll.
Attendees will also be able to peruse a fabulous range of stalls from local makers, bakers and charities, with a range of family friendly activities also taking place throughout the day. The Socials will run from 12pm - 4pm in the centre of the Mall, and members of the town centre development team will be on hand to answer any questions that residents may have about the current development works.
Development work updates
The development is progressing on King Street with the new high street starting to emerge. Foundations are currently being installed to facilitate the installation of new shopfronts. These units are set to house a mix of independent and national brands and will become the beating heart of the town centre. The new high street is set to open in 2025.
Improvement works continue on the multi-storey car park. The large external ramp has now been completely demolished and the team are busy building a much more convenient internal ramp. Other improvements will include better lighting, security and accessibility, and the new multi-storey car park will reopen in 2025. Don’t forget there is plenty of alternative parking open seven days a week outside the mall between the Chester Road entrance and St Matthew’s Church.
The Stretford Development Corner is up and running in the Mall too. This area is home to handy information posters, details on community events and answers to the most frequently asked questions about the works. The latest up to date progress pictures and CGIs are also here in one handy location for everyone to view. Find the development corner on the right hand side of the Mall at the Chester Road entrance.
Save The Date: Saturday 6th July: The StretFest
Save the date for The StretFest on Saturday 6th July. A free, neighbourhood-wide festival is coming to the town centre to celebrate Stretford’s vibrant culture and community. The StretFest will feature a diverse array of music, art, dance, and interactive workshops, unfolding across Stretford’s favourite venues and public spaces.
The final square name from the “Name the Square'' community initiative will be also revealed at The StretFest, and the temporary car park will be closed off to create a range of cycling and active travel activities.
