A 52-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition after he appeared at a shop with serious injuries in Baguley.

The emergency services attended a shop on Altrincham Road in response to a report by one of its staff members on Friday.

A 52-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition and, the following day, police arrested five suspects in connection with an assault which was believed to have been the cause of his injuries.

The assault was believed to have been at an address on Crowhurst Walk, off Butcher Lane, at around 10.30am on Friday.

Of these suspects, all of whom were men between their 30s and their 60s, two of them were released with no action to be taken against them but three of them remain under investigation.

Detective Superintendent Helen Critchley said: "I hope the public is reassured by the pace of our investigation. We believe this was a targeted attack with no wider threat to the community.

"This man remains in a serious condition and specialist officers are supporting his family at this time. My thoughts remain with them as he fights for his life.

"Whilst we are making progress working through lines of enquiries, our work is far from over, and I am appealing to members of the public who might know something about this incident to come forward.

"I am appealing for people who were around Altrincham Road and Butcher Lane on the morning of June 14 and who may have witnessed something or have dashcam or doorbell footage to contact police."
