After receiving over 400 entries for the ‘Name the Square’ campaign, the Stretford town centre team announced the three shortlisted entries at the Stretford Socials on 1st June. The finalists were Hibberd Square, Lloyd Square and Enriqueta Square, each of which received numerous entries during the campaign, demonstrating their importance to the local community.
The final public vote closed on 16th June with an incredible 1637 entries, which were received via online and social media polls and ballet boxes in the Mall. The votes have been collected and counted by the town centre team and the winner will be revealed at the next Stretford Social on Saturday 6th July as part of town-wide event, The Stretfest.
The Stretford town centre team will also be unveiling a 'Name the Square' exhibition in the former Bon Marche unit, which the community will be able to peruse.
The Stretfest: Saturday 6th July
Save the Date….The Stretfest is taking place across various venues in Stretford on 6th July. The FREE community run day is set to be a highlight of the summer and Stretford town centre is delighted to be part of the day. In the town centre, you will find a bumper edition of the Stretford Socials taking place from 12-4pm. Within the mall, you can find a range of handmade gifts, homemade preserves and ginger shots, baked goods and crafts from local traders.
Outdoors, attendees will find the exhilarating event, ‘Off-Road Stretford’. Providers of cycling experiences ‘The Dirt Factory’, will be taking over the temporary car park next to the Mall with their popular modular pump track. Gear up for a fun and rewarding experience for all ages, the track will be an opportunity to test cycle skills in a thrilling environment that promises excitement for everyone. It will be FREE to use, with helmets and demo bikes provided. Just head to the temporary car park, situated in the hoarded area between Chester Road and St Matthew's Church to get involved.
Exciting news for Bakehouse32 fans: New venue opening soon!
The wait is almost over for loyal fans of Bakehouse32, the beloved New York-style pizza joint. Their new venue is nearing completion and is set to open in just a few weeks’ time.
The new location will feature a delicious daytime service offering coffee, pastries, and sourdough. In the evening, you can look forward to indulging in the best pizza, pasta, natural wine and frozen margaritas. Additionally, the venue will host supper clubs, events and workshops, making it a vibrant community hub in the heart of Stretford town centre.

Development update
The work on the multi storey car park is progressing well with the external ramp being demolished and removed from site, opening up a whole new area in the town centre. A new internal ramp is now being constructed, foundations have been poured and all of the steelwork has been installed. This new ramp will allow for efficient and convenient access to the revitalised car park. Other improvements include a clean-up of the facade, the installation of new lighting and freshly painted ceilings.
King Street is also coming together, with individual retail units taking shape. New brickwork is currently being installed and roof replacements will be taking place over the next few weeks. The new high street will also benefit from glazed shop fronts, planting and seating. All of these improvements will contribute to creating a vibrant heart of the town centre.
King Street will feature a mix of retail, hospitality and leisure businesses and the Stretford town centre team are now speaking to a number of occupiers about taking space on the new high street. Stay tuned for exciting updates in the coming weeks and months!
