A popular pizza restaurant renowned for some titanic, 22-inch pizzas is to open at Altrincham's Foundation.

Nell's Pizza is to open as one of a number of occupants of the former House of Fraser in September 2024.

The popular pizza restaurant started as a way for its founder, Jonny Heyes, to serve New York-style pizzas to the punters at two of his bars – The Beagle in Chorlton and Common in the city centre – before it took on a standalone site at Kampus in the city centre after a year and a half in business.

It serves 14-inch pizzas, 22-inch pizzas and slices ranging from its classic 'OG Marg', or margherita, to its top-selling 'Do You Roni Honey?' topped with nduja sausage, pepperoni sausage and hot honey.

Mr Heyes said: "We've been hoping to open a Nell's in Altrincham for years. We love the town, it is so vibrant, and it is almost like coming on holiday when you head here. We cannot wait to be part of it."

The development in the town centre is the result of a partnership between Bruntwood and Trafford Council.

Already a Starbucks coffee shop is open at the site and within weeks a bowling alley is opening at the site too.

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: "Trafford is bucking the UK-wide trend of declining high streets as we continue to invest in our towns to create thriving destinations for local people. The addition of Nell’s Pizza demonstrates the popularity of the Stamford Quarter and of Altrincham as a destination and it will be a fantastic addition to the offering at Foundation.

"The council is committed to the regeneration of all of our town centres in the borough with work planned for Altrincham, Sale and Stretford in the coming months."
