Trafford Council is holding a Women into Construction jobs and skills event to help and encourage women joining the industry.

The event will be held on Wednesday, July 10 at Stretford Public Hall as a drop in session from 10am till 12pm.

While it is mainly aimed at women, that is not required to attend as the event also provides a chance to gather information from local construction companies and training providers.

For this event, the council’s inclusive economies and communities team will bring together more than 20 local construction and training providers, as well as the Department of Work and Pensions and Build a Business, which supports small companies, entrepreneurs and anyone thinking of starting their own business.

Richard Roe, the council's corporate director of place, said: “Construction is a key focus for the council.

"Whether it’s new-build projects, or repairs and maintenance, we want to help create a thriving industry that attracts the best people.

“There’s something for everyone, from plastering and plumbing to surveying and engineering – the opportunities and employment prospects are great, if you have the right skills, or the drive to get them.

“More women now have long-term and successful careers in construction, so why not come along and see if it could be for you?”

The event provides an opportunity to find out more about career pathways into construction, live job vacancies, current training opportunities, including Construction Skills Certification Scheme card courses and skills bootcamps and self employment advice and support.

The council said this event has been arranged as a way to help showcase the different construction roles on offer, particularly those that may interest women, as there has been a recent rise in interest from women in these roles.
