The Borough of Trafford is all red for the first time in its history after a dramatic day in the General Election 2024.

The Labour Party won in all of Altrincham and Sale West, Wythenshawe and Sale East, and Stretford and Urmston on the night where Sir Keir Starmer took the keys to Number 10 from Rishi Sunak.

The result in Altrincham and Sale West, where Connor Rand won by a margin of more than 4,000 votes, stood out in an area where the last non-Conservative Party MP was more than 100 years ago.

Sir Graham Brady, who is to switch the House of Commons for the House of Lords thanks to a peerage from Mr Sunak, stood down after more than quarter of a century at the time of the dissolution.

Mr Rand said: "What a privilege it is to be the first Labour MP for Altrincham and Sale West. Thanks to the people who put their trust in the Labour Party.

"Thanks to the people who've always voted Conservative who've this time voted Labour to turn the page on all the chaos, decline and division we've seen."

The Conservative candidate, Oliver Carroll, said: "Congratulations to @ConnorRand4ASW on his election as the next MP for Altrincham and Sale West.

"I wish him well as he plays his part in the next chapter of my wonderful hometown's story."

The result in Wythenshawe and Sale East saw the incumbent Mike Kane win by a margin of more than 14,000 votes over the next closest candidate, Julie Fousert of Reform UK.

The result in Stretford and Urmston saw the incumbent Andrew Western win by a margin of more than 16,000 votes over the next closest candidate, Mark Cornes of the Tories.

Mr Western said: "We will bring a change and after 14 years of chaos and I look forward to playing my part in it on behalf of and for the people of Stretford and Urmston."
