The police are investigating after two suspects took power tools to a speed camera on a road out of Stretford.

They said the installation is one of at least two in Greater Manchester to be targeted since the start of this week.

On Monday (July 8) two suspects took power tools to a speed camera on Edge Lane, close to Ryebank Road, doing damage to the equipment. There is another speed camera on Edge Lane, close to Alderfield Road, which is unaffected.

These suspects fled from the scene on e-bikes towards Meadow Court.

On Wednesday (July 10) one suspect took power tools to a speed camera on Errwood Road in Burnage, Manchester, cutting down the equipment.

This suspect fled from the scene on foot towards the McVities Factory.

Inspector Paul Wall, of GMP City of Manchester, said: "These incidents are disappointing as the speed cameras which were damaged were requested by the local community to help to reduce the levels of serious injury caused by speeding on high-risk routes close to schools, shops or public parks.

"We are investigating these incidents and anyone who is found to have damaged these cameras or to have been in conspiracy to commit these crimes will be arrested and dealt with accordingly."

Police said they are working with Manchester City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester to remove and repair the speed cameras.
