A car show at a Hale Barns pub will see hit film and TV cars feature in honour of a veteran who died after suffering with cancer.

Rob's Car Show is being held by Marcus Christie to remember his brother, Rob, and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Rob died last year, aged 55, after a battle with cancer and had previously served in the armed forces for more than 20 years.

Rob and Marcus' mother also died after having cancer and was cared for by Macmillan Cancer Support.

Marcus said: "I thought this would be a fitting tribute to put together a TV and classic car show in his memory, because he loved American cars and TV cars from the 80s.

"While he was in the nursing home, I managed to get him a visit off the A-Team van and the Dukes of Hazzard car."

He said he then became friends with the owner of the two cars, who has been helping him with the display.

The show will take place at the Bulls Head on Wicker Lane in Hale Barns from noon on Saturday, July 20.

Featured cars include the A-Team van and corvette, Lightning McQueen, Del Boy's three-wheeler, the Supernatural Impala, the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard and many more.

In attendance will be costume actors of Buzz Lightyear, Batman, nine-foot tall Transformers and others.

Marcus has also arranged for bouncy castles, outdoor assault courses and top raffle prizes to be won from Manchester United, Eddie Hall strongman, and WWE.

Originally, the show was due to be held at Hale Barns Carnival but after a risk assessment on the site, the carnival has been postponed until July 2025 and so Marcus quicky moved the show to the Bulls Head.

Staff from the care home which cared for Rob, Four Oaks in Partington, will be at the event and are donating £500 to the cause.

Representatives from Macmillan will also attend.

Marcus said: "My brother supported our country in the armed forces, and I just want to support him.

"Rob was a very selfless man, he never asked for anything and would do anything for anybody.

"He was retired from the armed forces after breaking his knees while with the parachute display team, on one of the falls.

"So, he was medically discharged, which he didn't like!

"All through his cancer diagnosis he never quarrelled about anything, he was just programmed to ignore the pain and that's why they caught it too late."

While Marcus has managed to get many of the cars to attend for free, there are some costs to hosting the show, which he has managed to cover through sponsorships and some donations.

With the costs now covered, all the money raised on the day will go to Macmillan.
