A care home in Sale is hosting a community sports day for people to have their own shot at going for gold to celebrate the Paris Olympics.

Care UK's Oakfield Croft will host the sports day as part of the Big Care UK Sports Day event, which sees more than 130 care homes host events to 'showcase what life in care homes is really like'.

The care home's bid to bring Paris to Sale will begin with an opening ceremony where staff member Jasmin Massey will be singing in French.

After the ceremony guests can soak up the sporting atmosphere and those brave enough can take a shot at winning gold medals with an afternoon of fun and games, including egg-and-spoon races, a French-themed dress-up relay race, and lawn bowling.

After working up an appetite with the games, the care home's head chef will be cooking up a storm with a French-inspired barbecue.

The team will also be transforming Oakfield Croft into the Games with Olympic rings hung from the balcony and the garden will be adorned with French flags and Union Jacks.

Finally, after enjoying the afternoon's delights, guests will see a closing ceremony where winning athletes will be presented with their trophies, medals and prizes.

Dan Cole, home manager at Oakfield Croft, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to join our own sporting celebrations.

“We are part of a strong community here in Sale, and days like this are a fantastic way of bringing us all together for a little healthy competition and to celebrate this year’s summer of sport, all while showcasing exactly what life is like here at Oakfield Croft.

“The day not only promises a lot of laughter and enjoyment for all involved, but also is an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones – while keeping active. We can’t wait until kick-off!”

Oakfield Croft has been rated ‘Good’ in all five areas by the Care Quality Commission and was named a Top 20 care home for the second year in a row.

The sports day will be held at the care home between 12pm and 3pm on Saturday July 27.

Oakfield care home is located at 1 Oakfield, Sale M33 6NB.
