Kennie Carter's killers were sentenced some two and a half years after the stabbing in Stretford.

Kennie, 16, was stabbed a single time on Thirlmere Avenue on the evening of January 22, 2022.

On Friday, four teenagers appeared at Manchester Crown Court to be sentenced by Mr Justice Goose. Boy A, 16, who has anonymity due to his age, was convicted of murder while two other 16-year-olds and 18-year-old Latif Ferguson were convicted of manslaughter.

The court heard how the four of them were acting out of revenge for an altercation a day before.

Boy A was sentenced to a minimum of 16 years and 60 days in detention for the stabbing while the two other 16-year-olds were sentenced to four years in detention and Ferguson, of School Walk, Old Trafford, was sentenced to five years in detention for supporting Boy A.

Another six teenagers were cleared of murder and manslaughter over the course of the trial between April and June.

Mr Justice Goose said: "The stabbing was because of a grievance between Kennie Carter and his associates and the four of you.

"You were intent on causing Kennie Carter harm."

Previously Detective Chief Inspector Nicola McCulloch, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "I would like to express my deepest condolences to Kennie's mum Joan and dad Glen, his family and his friends.

"It has been two and a half years since he was taken from them and it has been difficult for them in court. They have had to listen to his last moments, many times, something no family should have to experience.

"I would like to thank the team for their dedication and hard work throughout this investigation.

"I would also like to thank the Crown Prosecution Service and the prosecution who worked closely with us."
