A revised planning application for the redevelopment of a chunk of Altrincham town centre has been submitted.
L&Q – formerly Trafford Housing Trust – has tabled the bid for Albert, Chapel and Lloyds Courts.
Town hall bosses say the new proposals from the housing association have been prepared and revised as a result of ongoing consultation with Trafford council, neighbours and the wider community, and now feature a design approach that better meets the needs of the area.
The revised application, designed by Project 3 Architects, shows a reduction in homes from the original designs, with 88 new properties proposed as opposed to 104 previously to allow for more open and green space.
Some 64 of these will be one- and two-bedroom apartments within two, four and five storey blocks, and the remaining 24 homes will be two to three storey, three-bedroom family homes.
The planning application includes 40 per cent affordable housing, and all homes will be accessible and adaptable, making them suitable for all customers including those with reduced mobility. Every house will have a front and rear garden, and every apartment will have a private balcony.
Landscaping has been redesigned and now features plans for a new large area of green open space, as well as an increase in size for the popular ‘New Street Green’ spot, making sure there’s more green space for the whole community to enjoy.
The proposals also show a large increase in the amount of landscaped areas for the public to use, compared to the previous application, including play and recreation space and pedestrian links throughout the site. The proposals will deliver a 22 per cent Biodiversity Net Gain.
Ben Townsend, new business director for the North West at L&Q, said: “We have listened to our residents, neighbours and the wider community and have adapted our plans in line with their thoughts.
“We have also worked closely with Trafford Council and are grateful for their input which has helped us to shape our plans to ensure they fit with their vision for Altrincham town centre.
“As a not-for-profit housing association, we’re committed to building homes in places where the housing need is greatest.
“These proposals offer an opportunity to regenerate an ageing site, creating quality new and affordable homes within an attractive place the whole community can enjoy.
“They sit alongside our Gallant House apartment block on Regent Road, completed in 2023, which has provided new homes for former New Street residents.”
