"Red Routes" could come into action before the New Year with work already underway on the schemes in Stretford and in Trafford Park.

The schemes are among several schemes by Trafford Council to upgrade these roads and other roads in the area around the sports stadia.

Red Routes are ones on which there is no stopping at any time and there is to be one of them, with red line markings, on the A56 between the M60 and Manchester and one of them, with no red line markings, on Village Way and Wharfside Way. Where there are no red line markings there is signage in what is called a Red Route Clearway.

It comes after a three-week consultation between March 18 and April 8 in which residents were divided down the middle about the idea.

A report said: "It is proposed to introduce a Red Route Traffic Regulation Order on the A56, and on associated side roads, between the M60 and Manchester. This will be under powers in the Road Traffic Regulation Act.

"The Red Route Traffic Regulation Order will allow for the management of parking and it will assist our officers with obstructive parking."

The Red Routes are among several schemes by Trafford Council to upgrade these roads and other roads in the area around the two Old Trafford stadia and other venues close to the city centre such as Victoria Warehouse.

According to the council the work on Chester Road's cycle lanes, on the same stretch as one of the Red Routes, is due to be done by October 2024 and the work on The Kingsway is due to to be done by November 2024.

The work on Chester Road's cycle lanes started in the summer of this year while the work on The Kingsway started in the spring of last year.

It is in addition to the creation of three CYCLOPS junctions on Talbot Road.
