An immersive screening of the celebrated British film, Bend It Like Beckham, is set to take place in Stretford next week.

Hosted by Girl Gang Manchester, the event forms part of Stretford’s Summer of Sport.

On Saturday, September 14, from 4pm into late evening, the town centre will offer film screenings, workshops, pop-up performances, and panel discussions.

The event marks the feminist collective’s first immersive screening in six years.

The screening will start from 7pm and run until 9pm inside Stretford Mall, open after hours exclusively for the first time in a long while.

Before and after the screening of Bend It Like Beckham- starring Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley - audiences can participate in various workshops and activities.

From 4pm to 6.30pm, these events will take place along the central corridor of the mall.

Among the planned events is a panel discussion titled - She’s Got Balls: Women in Sport - Advocating, Instigating and Training.

The discussion will be chaired by visual artist and football fanatic Alina Akbar.

Other activities include a football anthem writing workshop, a ball skills workshop called "No-one can Bend it Like Beckham", a conversation space named Chai & Chat, and a Bollywood dance workshop by Aimz BollyDance.

A decor inspired by Indian weddings and interactive sets and props from the film will transport audiences into specific scenes from the movie.

Suppliers will be in attendance to provide South Asian food and drink refreshments.

Once the film is finished, an Indian wedding-themed after-party will be held in the Mall featuring DJ Amina on the Beat.
