Simon Rimmer's restaurant is to shut at Stanley Square a little more than two years after its arrival in Sale.

Greens Restaurant is to shut as of today according to a short statement on social media by the veggie venue.

When it was set up a little more than two years ago by celebrity chef and TV presenter Simon Rimmer the all-vegetarian restaurant was a sister site to another all-vegetarian restaurant in South Manchester which was revolutionary when it was set up in the 1990s.

Rimmer, from The Wirral, who is famous for his roles in shows such as BBC Two's Something for the Weekend then Channel 4's Sunday Brunch, asked for customers to come to the Sale site after the closure of the South Manchester site at the start of this year.

It has rave reviews with four and half stars out of five stars on sites such as TripAdvisor and customers came out in support of it in the comments after the announcement it was "untenable".

One of the commenters said: "What a shame. [There are] no other vegan restaurants or veggie restaurants in the area."

Another of the commenters said: "This is so sad. We were coming tonight for our 10th anniversary from South Wales."

Rimmer's restaurant is not the only one to shut at Stanley Square as a result of tough times in the hospitality industry but it tends to take no time at all for the units to be taken up.

Sale Foodhall shut last year to be replaced by Canteena Bar & Grill and the pasta restaurant Rigatoni's shut this year to be replaced by the pizza restaurant Wood Fire Smoke.

This is in addition to a number of other restaurants such as Petisco and Roti as well as a number of other shops.
