Almost 2,500 pensioners are missing out on millions in Pension Credit according to figures from Trafford Council.

The payment is for those with an income of less than £218.15 a week or less than £332.95 a week if in a couple.

It is all the more important in light of the limitation of Winter Fuel Allowance to those in receipt of Pension Credit or other benefits as announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves over the summer. There are other things limited to those in receipt of Pension Credit or other benefits including WaterSure and Warm Home Discount.

According to figures from Trafford Council almost 2,500 pensioners are missing out on £6.15 million in Pension Credit on an annual basis for a range of reasons including the stigma of using the system.

Jane Slater, Trafford Council's Executive Member for Healthy and Independent Lives, said: "Trafford Council is inviting all eligible residents to apply for a top up to their pension through Pension Credit. It is important for all eligible residents to apply as soon as possible.

"If you have loved ones who are eligible please ensure they are aware and they are applying."
