Officers arrested more than 20 people as a crackdown on crime arrived for the fourth time in Trafford.

Operation Avro is a police operation which is in a different district of Greater Manchester each month.

On October 24, officers arrested more than 20 people for crimes as serious as robbery.

This is in addition to activities in which 88 drivers were brought up for a range of driving offences on Partington's Manchester Road, Timperley's Shaftesbury Avenue and outside the Trafford Centre while another 148 drivers were brought up for speeding across Trafford.

A Stretford shop could be closed via a closure order as a result of selling a knife to an undercover underage customer and there were other activities relating to knife crime at Sale High School, at Sale Metrolink and at Trafford Bar Metrolink.

Also on the agenda was anti-social behaviour at Altrincham Interchange, at Altrincham Retail Park and at Turn Moss Playing Fields with the playing fields one of the areas where anti-social behaviour on off-road bikes is a particular problem.

Superintendent Marcus Noden, of GMP Trafford, said: "Operation Avro is taking place across the area and it is an intensification of police resources and partnership resources. Criminals will be arrested and there will be proactive policing at sites such as the Trafford Centre, traffic operations at a number of sites, partnership work with the likes of Trading Standards and school-based work around anti-social behaviour and knife crime.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank the community for making the day a success."
