A bakery in Altrincham has been forced to close its doors following what it has said is a dispute with the landlord of the building.

Bread Bin Bakery, which operated on New Street near the town centre, announced earlier this month that it has closed with immediate effect.

In a statement posted on social media, founder Lisa Bindahnee said staff had arrived to the bakery's premises one morning to find the locks had been changed.

She stated that the building had recently been sold to Artemis Europe Limited and that they had been engaged in a dispute over parking with the landlord.

Following the changing of the locks, staff were unable to get in and run the business, leading Ms Bindahnee to decide to close down the bakery.

She said: "I am physically and mentally exhausted and I do not have the energy to spend even more money looking for new premises with all the inherent costs that would involve and fighting these people in the courts."

Ms Bindahnee said that she had funded the business herself with no borrowing her debt after leaving her career as a lawyer and added that the business was not facing "any financial problems".

In her statement, she also thanked her staff, saying: "We have achieved so much in such a short space of time and overcome challenge after challenge that has been thrown at us."

Ms Bindahnee also thanked the customers, saying: "Getting to know our customers by name has been the absolute best part of this job.

"I know a lot of you will want us to keep the business going in another form or alternative location but I have concluded it will just be too difficult and costly to pull it off."

Since the closure, social media posts have shown a team has been allowed into the building to pack up the equipment and Ms Bindahnee is trial-running home deliveries of certain baked goods "to see if this could be a viable option".

Artemis Group have been approached for comment.
