A design company created a gift for stars attending the MTV Europe Music Awards.

The Sculpts, an independent company which has sites in the borough, was invited to make a special design for more than 100 international artists, guests, and media at the awards on Sunday, November 10.

The MTV EMAs were held in Manchester for the first time, marking the event's 30th anniversary.

The company is known for its handmade ceramic tiles, each depicting a part of Manchester's transformation into a "cultural powerhouse".

The design for the EMAs features a limited edition black and white tile, showcasing significant aspects of Manchester and the music world.

It includes artists like George Michael and Bjork, a "Lowry-style" cityscape, musical references to Manchester's bands, the region's Winter Hill broadcast mast, and the MTV Union Jack logo.

The Sculpts' founder and illustrator, Richard Bennett, said: "MTV was my window to the world of music, a place where creativity and visual artistry collided.

"The garish aesthetics of the 80s and 90s, inspired by Italian design movements like Memphis and Futurism, were a constant source of inspiration for me.

"Designing for the MTV EMAs in Manchester was a dream come true, a chance to revisit the nostalgia of my youth and contribute to a channel that has always been at the forefront of visual innovation."

The Sculpts' tiles feature across Manchester, with each 6x6-inch tile illustrating a letter of the alphabet in a pen and ink style, symbolising a stage in the city's transformation.

They have a shop at Stanley Square in Sale, a permanent stall at Altrincham Market, and a retail outlet at Manchester Airport.

Michelle Louise, from MTV EMAs, said: "Working with The Sculpts has been a fantastic experience.

"Their unique, hand-crafted gifts capture the essence of this vibrant city so beautifully.

"Their dedication to crafting bespoke designs that celebrate the city's vibrant culture truly stands out.

"I'm sure the artists will love these one-of-a-kind pieces and take a little bit of Manchester with them—not just in their hearts, but also on their coffee tables."

The company has previously worked on designs for various cultural institutions in Manchester, including the University of Manchester’s Bicentenary, Manchester Museum, Whitworth Gallery, and the Stock Exchange Hotel.

The MTV EMAs saw performances from well-known artists, including Shawn Mendes, Raye, and Teddy Swims.

Manchester's own Liam Gallagher won the "Best Rock" award, competing against legends like Bon Jovi, Coldplay, Green Day, Kings of Leon, Lenny Kravitz, and The Killers.
