Dame Laura Kenny will switch on Altrincham's Christmas lights.

The event will take place from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday, November 23 and will have a sustainability and sport theme.

The Olympic champion will take to the stage on Regent Road to "officially kick off the Christmas season" in Altrincham.

The audience will be on George Street.

The event, organised by Altrincham BID and hosted by Happy Radio's Darren Proctor and Chelsea Norris, will feature a range of seasonal entertainment and community choirs.

This year, the event will have a sustainability focus, with gyms, fitness studios, Altrincham Football Club, and Manchester Storm players powering some of the stage lighting through pedal power.

Each group will take a 20-minute slot to generate power, promoting fitness and sustainability.

The performances will include Little Belters, The Music Place Choir, Amanda Jane Heywood, Imogen-Paige, and the debut of the Randall’s Jewellers Band featuring Cllr Michael Welton, Martin Duff, and Sonia Stanley.

Dame Laura, who has won five Olympic gold medals and one silver, is the first British woman to win gold in three consecutive Olympic Games.

Her career earned her the title of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in 2022.
