A council service has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Trafford Music Service is in the running for Music Mark’s Digital Music Project of the Year, following the launch of its music production sessions for pupils.

The award aims to celebrate projects around the UK that have digital and technology as a key component of their success.

Trafford Music Service, which is shortlisted along with two other music services, offers weekly one-hour sessions to children aged from seven to 14.

The sessions introduce students to music technology through modules including music for games, film, and podcasting.

The programme is designed for children who might not typically engage with music.

Cllr Cath Hynes, executive member for leisure, arts, culture, and heritage, said: "This is a fantastic achievement by our service.

"There are so many ways music can be created and be part of the creative process.

"The music production sessions sound so exciting and I’m delighted that we are able to offer children in Trafford such a great programme.

"Culture, sport, and heritage for everyone is one of our priorities, so I’m thrilled we can offer a different array of sessions that will appeal to all children."

Music Mark is a national organisation that helps provide high-quality music education for children and young people.
