A plan to demolish a detached 1920s house in order to replace it with six apartments as part of a larger development known as ‘Cloud 9’ in Bowdon has been tabled.
The planning application is for an ‘apartment home’ on two plots at Bow Green Road.
This follows approval of plans to also build two new semi-detached homes following the demolition of the 100-year-old house.
A design and access statement says that the proposal has been developed to ‘address Trafford’s acute and persistent housing supply shortfall’ as well as the significant need for ‘market affordable’ housing in the ‘upscale’ area of Bowdon, known for its affluent residents, including millionaires and professional footballers.
The statement cited a judgement from planning inspector Graham Chamberlain who mentioned the housing supply shortage in Trafford as a factor in approving a development.
“The apartment building has been thoughtfully designed to emulate the appearance of a traditional home…with a strong focus on overall kerb appeal,” the statement said.
“Architectural elements such as pitched roofs, decorative eaves and expansive windows contribute to its residential character.”
It said that the project has a strong focus on enhancing the local area and ‘pushing the boundaries of sustainable design’.
However, one objection from a nearby resident in Stanhope Road has appeared anonymously on the Trafford council planning portal.
“I feel this development is not in keeping with the surrounding houses. I also feel it will put a strain on the already traffic issues we have on Stanhope Road as well as road parking. The surrounding houses are all detached and apartments would not be in keeping for the area.”
