Manchester Authorities have agreed to support the 50p minimum unit price of alcohol - making Greater Manchester the firstst in the UK.
Minimum unit pricing is designed to target extremely cheap drink prices and drinking promotions, and research suggests that it would particularly reduce consumption by heavy drinkers and young people.
Councillor Cliff Morris, chairman of the Greater Manchester Health Commission said: “Adopting such proposals would see not only an improvement in the region’s health, but also a reduction in crime and disorder.”
