TRAFFORD Council needs to completely resurface roads not just patch them up, Sale residents have said.

Cath Spencer said repair work on Glebelands Road that was carried out this week had been done to a “very shabby standard”.

A Dunbar Road resident said the council had to “resurface - and not 'patch-up' - the parts of Glebelands Road and its side roads that have been damaged”.

He said that HGVs, which cause structural damage to houses on Glebelands Road and nearby side roads, need to be banned.

A number of Cherry Lane residents contacted the Messenger about the state of their road and said they had complained a number of times to Trafford Council.

John Lonsdale said the potholes were getting ”deeper and wider every day”.

Neighbour Dr Ash Ahluwalia said: “Our house shakes vigorously with buses and lorries passing by. I am sure this is not helping the foundations as well as the suspension of the buses and trucks.”

Resident Jack Nixon said Cherry Lane was in “urgent” need of repair and he was fed up with the “constant shaking” of his house.

Chris Lomax measured the potholes on Cherry Lane and said some were in excess of 1m by 5m and were 60mm deep.

A Trafford Council spokesperson said Cherry Lane had been earmarked for a major investment as part of the £24 million renewal of worn out highway infrastructure and work would be completed in the next few months.

“In the meantime, council staff regularly visit the area and will make sure that any potholes causing an extreme hazard for road users are made safe straight away,” she said.

Another Messenger reader complained about the lane leading up to Walton Park at the end of Raglan Road in Sale.

Gill Khan said: “The approach to the lane is shocking, as is the car park itself, full of deep pot holes which are difficult to drive over, let alone walk.”

Trafford Council confirmed that the potholes would be filled.
