A FLIXTON college is calling on its old boys to help them with a golden year of celebrations.
Wellacre Technology College on Irlam Road is marking the 50th anniversary of its opening with a year of events ranging from an exhibition of the school's history to a celebration book and is looking to former pupils to help contribute.
Ray Howell, who has been head of the school since 1998, said: "We are setting up an exhibition for throughout the summer term which will show any aspect of pupils' achievement or history of the school we can get our hands on.
"We would be delighted to hear from anyone who has any photographs, newspaper articles or even something they want to write themselves.
"The current pupils will also be playing a big part."
Throughout this week ex-pupils have been visiting the school to present all the year groups with commemorative pens to mark the occasion in special assemblies aimed at raising awareness of the school's history.
The two main events are taking place in the summer term: a summer fair on June 25 and a grand reunion afternoon and evening on July 2.
Mr Howell added: "It's an honour to be involved at a time when the college is celebrating its 50th anniversary and I'm looking forward immensely to the reunion events which I'm sure will be a great success."
The school first opened its doors on April 25 1955 as Urmston Wellacre County Secondary School and became a specialist technology college in 2002.
Since the status change, £1million has been invested into the school, resulting in the building of state of the art facilities including new ICT suites and a language laboratory while an all weather, floodlit pitch will be officially opened in the summer.
Any former pupils who have anything they could lend to the school to help mark the occasion can call Mrs Monks on 0161 748 5011 or email admin@wellacre.Trafford.sch.uk
Contributions will be displayed on the college's website www.wellacre.demon.co.uk
