I am astonished at the myopia of plans by officials of the sports and leisure development division of Trafford council to convert part of the large room used by Sale Harriers for a variety of training activities into offices.
Apart from adding to the reputation of the borough for promoting sport to international standards of achievement, these facilities provide an important contribution to the fitness and health of young people, bearing in mind that the rise of obesity among youngsters is giving cause for concern.
The disregard for the energy and resources of many locally active citizens in encouraging children to exercise is deeply regrettable and sends the wrong signals about our sense of priorities.
Paul Thomson, Race Director of the Sale Sizzler, Sycamore Street, Sale
