SALE Town Partnership - the new name for the group whose aims are to improve facilities and raise the profile of the town - now has a new logo to match, thanks to the design skills and hard work of Sale Grammar School pupils.
The Partnership appealed to local secondary schools to design a logo that would instantly identify the town.
Year 10 design and technology students from Sale Grammar School rose to the challenge. Sarah Greenhalgh, design and technology teacher at Sale Grammar, said: "The request from the Partnership provided an excellent opportunity for the students to undertake a real design brief.
"They had to work to a set specification, create a range of initial proposals and work with the client to develop final designs. The school's involvement with the project reflects our commitment to working with community groups and to providing stimulating learning opportunities for our students."
Partnership members - which include business and community organisations - were given the choice from 10 final designs, picked for their creativity and matching the design criteria.
Sale Town Partnership chairman, Meg Cooper, said, "We felt that involving design and technology students would not only provide us with a brand new logo to be proud of but would also give them an interesting local project to focus on and make them think about the features of their own town. It was extremely difficult to choose one design as they were all of a very high standard and extremely well presented. Credit must also go to the dedication of the school's design and technology teacher, Sarah Greenhalgh, without whom the project could not have been the success it was."
All the students who took part received a certificate. The ten finalists were invited to a presentation ceremony in the town with the Mayor of Trafford, Marie Harney, who praised their achievements and community involvement. The school also received a framed certificate and the creator of the chosen design, Louise Mitchell, received the added bonus of book vouchers donated by WH Smith in Sale.
A display of the logo designs is on view in the window of Acre House reception, The Square Shopping Centre, Sale until Monday, October 28.
