FOLLOWING a private committal, a service of celebration for the life of Mr W Alan Gallimore will be held at St Mary's Church, Sale.
Alan was born in Salford on September 22, 1924, the only son of Edith and William.
He was educated at St Mary's Church of England School and later at Stretford Grammar School and Edinburgh Royal High School.
After serving as a naval petty officer in Ceylon and India, he returned to marry Betty Evelyn Russell on September 16, 1950.
Alan and Betty were proud to have celebrated their Golden Wedding with all their family and friends.
He was a former Junior Mayor of Sale with Betty as his Junior Lady Mayoress in the early 1950's and he was a former Governor of St Mary's School, Sale.
Alan was a former church warden at St Mary's and a regular member of the congregation.
He is well known throughout not just Cheshire, but the country, for his love and support of Freemasonry.
Many people involved and not connected with Freemasonry heard Alan promote the ideals of the organisation.
His support for charitable work was without reservation.
Alan relatively recently became involved with Sale Probus where he was chairman.
He is survived by his widow Betty, children John, Peter, Ann and Margaret, grandchildren Ian, Chris, Andrew, Michael, Lindsay and Emma and great grand daughter Kaitlin.
Donations, if desired for either Christie Hospital or Cheshire Provincial Fund of Benevolence should be sent to Arthur Gresty Ltd, 305 Manchester Road, West Timperley.
