Flixton FC 1, Squires Gate 1
FLIXTON picked up their second point of the season after a disappointing display against Squires Gate, one of the promoted sides from last season.
Otuto had the first chance for the home side, but keeper Summerfield saved his shot then the visitors took control for most of the half with a strong defence and their ability to hit the home side on the break.
Longworth on three occasions, Blinkhorn and Sugden all had decent chances for the Blackpool side, mostly from set pieces as their tactics made the home side defend. Flixton to had their moments, notably when new signing Turner shot over and Hibbert headed a Jones corner over the bar, but the game was goalless at the break.
The restart saw Flixton make two early substitutions that seemed to make a difference. Turner, Jones and Comley-Excel combined well, but the former saw his shot well saved and from the resulting corner, new signing Shiel had his shot well held by Summerfield.
Flixton were awarded a penalty on 66 minutes after Turner's clever pass found Comley-Excel, who was tripped. He got up and dispatched the penalty easily. Turner, Comley-Excel and Wilson were then denied as both sides went for the decisive goal.
The visitors were awarded a penalty in the second minute of added time and skipper Rawson drilled it home.
