A TRAFFORD resident who showed he was keen to be green has won a garden shredder and a trip to the Theatre of Dreams.
Russell Drury entered a prize draw at an event held to encourage the borough's people to recycle their garden waste.
Trafford council offered composters at a reduced rate at sales earlier in the year, the third year running in which it has offered this service. The scheme has been so successful that 9,600 composters are now in use throughout the borough.
This year it teamed with companies including Bosch and Southern Electric, as well as Manchester United Football Club.
Russell Drury, from Sale, the prize draw at one of the composting events earlier in the summer and won a Bosch Garden Shredder. The reduced price composter offer was run by SUM in the run up to the the events. He also won a family ticket for a tour of the Manchester United museum and stadium.
The garden shredder and ticket was presented to the winner at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium by Glenn Stuart, waste manager at Trafford council and Phil Ratcliffe, area sales manager for Bosch, who were delighted to be involved.
Mr Drury said: "With landfill sites rapidly reaching capacity it is becoming more important to do your bit for the environment and home composting is a great way to start and now our garden shredder will help us to do this further."
For a limited period, cut-price composters will be delivered to the homes of residents who were unable to make the sale. Please telephone 0870 849 4860 for further details.
