A WINDFALL of more than a million pounds will be shared between three Trafford primary schools to provide space for sport and arts facilities, after a successful bid for funding from Sports England.

The schools that will benefit from the money are King's Road Primary School, Partington Primary School and Victoria Park Junior School.

New changing rooms, toilets and a meeting room are planned for King's Road Primary School in Firswood, which will receive a £240,000 grant.

A new multi-purpose creative arts room and a sports hall with changing rooms, showers and toilets will be the new additions to the facilities at Partington Primary School, which was awarded a £400,000 grant.

Headteacher Linda Pickwell said: "We are over the moon to be granted the bid, and hope it benefits the local community as well as the school."

Victoria Park Junior School in Stretford will get a new music and arts building thanks to a £400,000 grant.

The council's executive member for children's and young people's services, Cllr Barbara Keeley, said: "This is good news for our primary schools, the money will be used to design new facilities that will benefit the pupils and members of their local community. More people will be able to take advantage of these new improved sports and art facilities."

A range of sports and arts programmes have been planned which include football, cricket, netball, badminton, basketball and martial arts.

Other activities include traditional and cultural dance, line dancing, belly dancing, yoga and relaxation, arts and photographic clubs, arts and crafts workshops.

The schools will all be equipped with internet access for both pupils and the community use.
