SALE will play host to one of the most controversial figures in comedy on September 5 when Scottish funnyman Jerry Sadowitz appears at the Blue Fish bar and restaurant.

Political and correctness are two dirty words for Sadowitz, who is also a highly accomplished magician.

The Blue Fish is no stranger to controversy - its last comedy booking was a certain Bernard Manning.

But Sadowitz capture typifies the venue's commitment to bringing live entertainment to Trafford and the venue aims to bring a high profile funnyman to the area once a month.

The Blue Fish started putting on acts just before Christmas and bar manager. Steve Williams says the aim was to offer something different to local people.

Steve says the clientele who frequent the venue tend to be older than the young things who flock to Manchester in search of fun.

Most of the revellers who come to the Blue Fish to be entertained are aged between 25 and 55. Events range from karaoke to an 80s Night to live music. And business is booming according to Steve.

What is the secret of their success?

"We give people a good night. We give them a safe environment and there's no trouble, no drugs. People can relax and it's not far from where they live. On Friday night we have an Irish band and suddenly everybody in the place becomes Michael Flatley and start doing routines from Riverdance.

"You've got a few pubs in Sale and the most they ever do is put a DJ on or have a quiz. We actually give people a live band and normally you'd have to go into Manchester for that," he says. Rick Bowen
