PARTINGTON is all set to get two new health buildings to end months of waiting for local people.

Trafford council and Trafford North Primary Care Trust have each come up with proposals to develop two separate centres in the town centre, each costing more than £1m.

The two buildings will be located on the same site by the town's market and it is hoped that construction of a healthy living centre will begin within the next 12 months and a health centre some time later.

They will give Partington residents will have access to a range of health advice and services including nutrition courses, doctors' surgeries, dental practices and a pharmacy.

Trafford council has secured £1m from the New Opportunities Fund for the Healthy Living Centre and the proposals for the new health centre formed part of the NHS Plan to improve the condition of buildings in primary care - the first level of care received by patients.

The final specifications for the new health centre and plans of what it will look like when it is built have been considered by the primary care trust. Once up and running both centres will work together to offer the people of Partington and Carrington unique health services.

The health centre will house two doctors' surgeries, a dentist practice, community pharmacy, clinic reception and administration, community nursing, midwifery and school nurses. And the healthy living centre will house a community caf, information centre, complementary therapies and health promotion.

Stretford and Urmston MP Beverley Hughes said: "People in Partington and Carrington have high rates of certain illnesses and health services should be tackling these needs. I'm delighted with the news that we will at last see big improvements.

"With the new health centre and the money for a healthy living centre we can not only treat illness better but also prevent people becoming ill in the first place."
