TRAFFORD buried their home jinx with an emphatic 3-1 win over Lincoln United in their Unibond League Division One clash at Shawe View on Saturday.
Following three successive home defeats, but with tremendous away wins at Premier giants Altrincham and Runcorn, Trafford were eager to please their loyal and vociferous home supporters and they started the game in a bright and confident manner.
In the 6th minute Peter Weston shot straight at goalkeeper Curry from 10 yards and then midfield man Chris Patterson had the misfortune to see his header from an inswinging free kick rebound into play off the crossbar.
Despite their dominance, the Shawe View men had to wait until the 38th minute before they forged ahead, Joe Murray driving his penalty past Curry after Weston had been tripped by the visiting keeper when sent clear.
Two minutes before half time Dean Butterworth should have made it two but shot wide from a great position after Patterson's thunderbolt had rebounded into his path.
The second half began with Trafford once again well in control but failing to turn their supremacy into goals and they were rocked in the 69th minute by a shock equaliser, Lincoln full back Ben Brown firing low past Molyneaux after the home side had failed to clear a right wing corner.
However, the visitors' joy was short-lived as, within a minute, Trafford regained the lead with a superbly created and well executed goal, Murray splitting the Lincoln defence and allowing Butterworth to stride forward and unleash a magnificent drive from 15 yards that flew past Curry and into the roof of the net.
Lincoln looked a spent force as Trafford went in search of more goals but player manager Molyneaux came to his side's rescue in the 80th minute when he produced a magnificent dive to deny a header by Taylor.
Trafford re-asserted their authority with Murray, substitute Leon Diaczuk and Bobby Jones, playing his last game in a white shirt before emigrating to Australia, dominating the midfield and all three combined brilliantly in the 86th minute to split open the visiting defence, Diaczuk breaking free and firing into the bottom corner from 15 yards.
This 3-1 victory means that despite their inconsistency, Trafford are still in a position to mount a serious challenge for the league championship although this Saturday their thoughts will be elsewhere as they entertain Ossett Albion at Shawe View in an FA Trophy Tie that kicks off at 3pm.
Then on Tuesday they make the journey to Stocksbridge Park Steels for a Unibond League Division One fixture, kick off 7.45pm.
