PAUL Goggins, MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East and President of Trafford CVS discovered that volunteering begins at the top when he visited the organisation's new headquarters at 106A Harley Road, Sale.
For chief officer, Barbara Bleeker, volunteer bureau assistant, Bernadette Rees and clerical assistant, Kathryn Bravery, all work without payment.
Mr Goggins met users of the centre and representatives of the 250 groups affiliated to Trafford CVS.
He was introduced to Thomas Atherton, co-ordinator of the Connect Project whose members and volunteer helpers were practising the guitar, one of many interests available to people who have had problems.
One of them, Derek McGarry described Connect as "a life changing experience."
Mr Goggins told SAM: "I have really enjoyed my visit and meeting representatives of the various groups who use the centre.
"I believe strongly that voluntary organisations play a crucial role in building up local communities.
"I pay tribute to all those involved in the voluntary sector in Trafford and look forward to supporting their activities."
