A RETIRED pharmacist is continuing to help sick people by raising money for the Children's Hospitals Appeal Trust.
Brian Wilkins, the former owner of HG Pilling Chemists in Timperley, is aiming to raise £2,500 for the charity by trekking along the Great Wall of China next June.
He is currently in training, and hopes to tackle the 39-mile stretch from Ying Beigou to Simatai in five days.
Brian, from Sale, is no stranger to this type of challenge. He has already completed two treks for various charities in previous years, but, as trustee of the Appeal Trust, he feels this effort will be particularly special.
He said: "As I am closely involved with the charity, I am delighted to be able to help in this way. It is an excellent cause and I am busy training, ready for the challenge ahead."
The Children's Hospitals Appeal Trust provides medical equipment and facilities to enhance the care of sick and injured children throughout the north west. To date, £6 million has been raised.
The charity is offering the chance to take part in similar events over the next couple of years. They include a cycle across Kenya in February next year and a cycle across the Canadian Rockies in September 2002.
Anna McCaughley, International Events Co-ordinator for the trust, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to take part in a once in a lifetime challenge and raise money for a wonderful cause.
"These events are open to enthusiastic people with various levels of fitness."
