CLLR Helen Busteed will serve as chairman of Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust for a further four years.

After her reappointment by the independent appointments commission, the Labour councillor praised the Trust's staff and reflected on improvements in service.

She said: "I came to the Trust in 1997 knowing that Trafford Healthcare had a good reputation. Since then I have seen the dedication, commitment, hard work and loyalty of the staff and I am delighted to be here for a further four years.

"I look around and see the progress that has been made - the new A and E department, X ray screening room, audiology modernisation and now the work underway on the surgical wards. Unseen are the many examples of improvements in clinical care, the work done by senior management in mapping out future services and the contribution from support services. Patients are always our priority - now and in the future."

She added: "Our recent two star rating is a good pointer to the future. We plan to continue to provide appropriate local services and to promote excellence throughout the Trust. I am proud of Trafford's achievements and would like to express my gratitude to the staff. I look forward to continuing to work with them."

Cllr Busteed, who lives in Hale, represents the Sale Moor ward.
