A PRIVATE flight from Belgium in June had to be steered onto grass at the side of a runway at Manchester airport due to a collapse of front landing gear, air accident investigators have found.
It was shortly before landing on June 16 when the two crew members of the Beech 200 heard a cracking noise, the report states.
The aircraft nose dropped towards the runway and the commander had to keep the nose up before bringing the jet to rest with the nose landing gear collapsed.
An investigation found damage to the aircraft included both engines and propellers, some minor damage to the fuselage caused by the propellers as they hit the ground and damage to both nose wheel bay doors.
There were no injuries and the report found that the landing gear would not have been visible on a normal pre-flight check as they were within the nose wheel bay.
