ADELINE and Frank Ranger's marriage started with a bang - and it has now lasted for 60 years.
The Timperley couple's wedding reception during World War Two was disrupted when a bomb was dropped outside the building, shattering all the windows.
But the reception carried on, and the Rangers celebrate their Diamond wedding anniversary next Thursday.
It was an explosive beginning to married life for the couple, who met at Frank's elder sister's wedding two years earlier. Adeline said: "It was love at first sight!"
Their wedding took place at St George's Church in Altrincham, after Frank returned from fighting in the war in North Africa. They have lived in Timperley all their married lives.
Frank, 81, worked in the milk industry for 41 years and went on to work for an engineering company in Cheadle before retiring in 1985.
Adeline, 82, was conscripted into munitions during the war, making Bren guns in Broadheath. She then worked for Bannerman's textiles company.
They share a number of hobbies, including crown green bowling and sequence dancing. Adeline is an active member of Timperley Townswomen's Guild, and has also had two poetry books published.
Trust is crucial in a successful marriage, according to Adeline. She said: "He has always let me do what I want, and he has always trusted me."
Frank added: "We give and take a lot. We've had our ups and downs, but we've got through it all. It's about mutual respect and trust."
The couple have two daughters, Pauline and Janet. They plan to celebrate their anniversary with a family meal.
