SALE Sharks star Jason Robinson is set to make his first start for the England team this weekend as the Six Nations Championship comes to a belated close.

The full back has already been involved with both England and the British Lions but will make his full debut at Lansdowne Road - playing on the left wing.

It's another boost for the former Rugby League man and the Heywood Road club - although Sharks coach Jim Mallinder says England's gain is Sale's loss.

He tells SAM: "Obviously we are all delighted for Jason and it is no more than he deserves.

"He has been outstanding for us since he arrived and that is why he will be missed this weekend when he travels to Dublin - instead of turning out for us against Northampton.

"I did think that he may get his chance at full-back after his performances for Sharks, but he is more than capable of playing on the wing and I'm sure he'll do well."

Meanwhile, Sharks have appointed a local man, Carl Fox, to a new position as managing director.

The appointment has been welcomed by chief executive Peter Deakin, who said, "I am delighted that Carl has joined us. I have effectively been off since July due to illness and Carl will be responsible for day-to-day management of the business.

"Once my treatment has finished, I will be heavily involved in strategic matters for the club as we continue to take Sale Sharks forward, building on what we have achieved already."

Mr Fox, who is 38 and married with four children, has lived all his life in Sale and was educated at the local Brooklands County Primary School before going on to study at Manchester Grammar School and Salford University, where he earned a degree in quantity surveying and construction economics.

After leaving university he worked in the construction industry, later setting up and running his own consultancy and, more recently, moving into business management.

He played mini-rugby at Ashton-on-Mersey and then spent 15 years playing for Old Salians - both clubs being a stone's throw from Heywood Road.

With his knowledge of local rugby, he is keen to establish an alliance between Sale Sharks and other local clubs, including the Sale member's club.

"We all have to work together for the benefit of the game in this region," said Carl.

Peter Deakin is receiving treatment for a brain tumour, which was diagnosed two months ago.

l This weekend's match against Northampton Saints at Heywood Road has been switched to a 12.35pm kick-off for live Sky coverage and is a family fun day.

The bars will be open from 11am and youngsters will be able to have their faces painted and meet Bob The Builder - as well as enjoy the on-field entertainment.

The club are also dedicating the game to local junior rugby and will be presenting Merit awards to various Trafford clubs. A capacity crowd is expected and tickets are available from the club on 610-0408 or 07812 220120.
