A STUDENT from Sale has helped his university radio station in its bid to be nominated for a top award.
Tim Forrest, who studies at Nottingham Trent University, put together Fly FM's entry for the Student Radio Awards during the summer.
And now the station is one of four in line for the prestigious title of Student Radio Station of the Year.
Tim, 20, who is studying Broadcast Journalism, was delighted with the news.
He said: "I couldn't believe it when friends told me we'd made the final. I spent weeks putting the entry together, so it's recognition for a lot of hard work."
Diana Forrest, Tim's mum, said: "He's worked so hard for this award. He's always been interested in radio. I know it's something he's interested in doing for a living."
"When Tim was making the audiotape entry we kept hearing the same pieces of sound coming through the walls again and again. In the end, my husband bought him a pair of headphones to keep him quiet, but he still didn't use them."
Tim, who hopes to continue working in radio, said: "It's something that I enjoy doing. I'm not sure I always wanted to just edit music. The course I'm studying is teaching me how to write news. I think I'd like to do that, for a while anyway."
The final will take place on November 9 at London's Alexandra Palace where they could be in with a chance of broadcasting a four-hour show across the UK on Radio 1.
