THE British Veterans Cross Country Championships took place in Swansea on Saturday and several times national champion Peter Hyde led the Altrincham over 50's team to silver medals finishing 7th individual.
The Timperley based lecturer was disappointed with his own run but delighted with the team medals, which he won along with Peter Shaw and Mansel Pope.
In a very high standard over 40 men's race, Dave Rudd finished 30th despite falling.
Peter Pickwell, Peter Milligan and Dimitri Panayiotou all enjoyed fine runs to complete the over 40 men's team.
Altrincham senior men finished 16th of 66 teams in the Northern Men's Road Relays at Sunderland on Saturday.
This was down on their excellent results in the last two years.
In 1999, the club achieved a best ever finish of 9th which they then improved to 8th last year.
With two of their leading athletes missing, they were always going to struggle but some excellent running almost saw them claim an unexpected top ten place.
Unfortunately, Lee Taylor was suffering from illness and was two minutes down on his anticipated time.
