A STRETFORD man was due to be charged with drink driving on Tuesday following a collision which left two elderly people with serious head injuries.

William Kenny, 27, of Truro Avenue, was driving a Volvo 360 along Dunham Road in Bowdon, on Sunday morning when he collided with a VW Polo, driven by Donald Winstanley of Mainwood Road, Timperley.

The Volvo, also carrying Hollie Kenny and a 10 month-old boy, Ross Kenny, struck the kerb and joined the opposite carriageway. After the collision, both cars ended up on the grass verge.

Mr Winstanley, 67, and Eva Winstanley, 65, had to be released from their car by the fire brigade. They were taken to Wythenshawe Hospital with serious head injuries.

Mr Winstanley's condition is described as comfortable. Mrs Winstanley was transferred to Withington Hospital, where she is said to be in a satisfactory condition. William and Hollie Kenny were also taken to Wythenshawe Hospital with minor injuries. They were discharged after treatment.

Mr Kenny was due to appear at Tameside Magistrates Courts on Tuesday.
