STOCKDALES is currently undergoing a £330,000 refurbishment which will turn it into a facility fit for the 21st century.

Work on the Sale based centre, which houses children and young adults with multiple disabilities, is due for completion in four weeks time.

Fund raising manager Frank Slater says it took the charity two years to raise the funds it needed to turn Stockdale's into a home from home for its residents.

The children have been moved to the front of the house and they'll be able to make use of new bedrooms, baths and hoists.

Other improvements include a spacious, fully equipped art room and a kitchen area where the young people can learn to cook.

The centre now has two lifts serving the children's and young adults homes.

A new roof has been added to the Harboro Road building and residents can now enjoy a landscaped garden through bay windows.

The whole place has changed in appearance and it really is quite a nice building now. Its state of the art and nothing like an institution. Each child has their own room which is their home. Its as like home as you could possibly make it, says Frank, who adds that all the rooms boast en suite bathrooms.

The workmen began their hammering on January 10 and another of their tasks has been to rewire.
