A LATE goal from left back Darrell Bates gave Trafford a share of the points in their Bank Holiday Monday fixture against their Humberside opponents.

The visitors started the brighter, with midfielder Botham just beaten to the ball by debutant keeper Andy Merrick following a neat three man move.

In their next attack, Uniteds Botham was again denied by an alert Merrick, as the visitors were in the ascendancy.

The Shawe View mens first attack of any substance came in the 37th minute, as from Darren Emmetts long cross field ball, Gareth Thomas cut inside his marker and unleashed a shot from the edge of the area that whistled just over the crossbar.

Minutes later, Ferriby took the lead, as a headed clearance from a free kick fell to the unmarked Trotter, who fired home from 10 yards.

The second half saw Trafford play with more urgency and pressing for the equaliser and they were unlucky not to have levelled when Phillips headed off the line. With the visitors hanging onto their advantage, the home side grabbed an equaliser six minutes from time.

Emmetts free kick hit the defensive wall and fell to Bates, who made no mistake from the edge of the goal area.

Both sides could have snatched victory in the dying minutes of the game, with United substitute Wood firing wide and then Emmett doing likewise at the other end after good work by Alan Pannett and Leon Diaczuk.

Team: Merrick, Quick, Bates, Southwood, McCartney, Jones, Diaczuk, Patterson, Emmett, Pannett, Thomas. Subs: Dowle, Houghton, Carroll.
