DISPUTES between neighbours in relation to Oemonster hedges has been an issue for many residents.
I have been contacted by local residents on many occasions and been unable to help, as the law stands at present.
However, a government consultation exercise has revealed overwhelming support for giving local authorities legal powers or order the trimming of nuisance hedges and I am very pleased that the Environment Minister Michael Meacher has stated that new laws will be introduced as soon as there is space in the parlimentary timetable.
Leylandii, the fastest growing hedging plant can reach 100ft often completely overshadowing the neighbours garden.
I know from my postbag the very real misery that this can cause residents and I am glad to welcome the news that this Government is responding positively to public concern over this issue which is distressing for those involved.
