SIXTY seven year old Urmston Hockey Club player Harry Greenhalgh shocked top team Nobs and Knockers by scoring the only goal against them in the North Devon National Hockey Tournament.

The Nobs and Knockers team, a galaxy of stars from Manchester sides Sale, Timperley, Bowdon, and Brooklands won the Mens League tournament with the only goal conceded from Harry.

Local side Urmston Hockey Club also travelling to Devon aquitted themselves well against some of the best teams in the country finishing 5th in the menss group and 6th in the mixed group from a total of 66 teams in the tournament.

At the opposite end of the age range, 13 year old Chris Brumwell who joined them from holiday was the star of the squad, gaining applause from spectators from all teams watching and surprising expert quality mens opponents with his speed determination and stick skills.

He laid on one of the goals for leading goalscorer Steve Ray (seven goals), 14 year old Stephen McShane was on three, followed by Harry on two and others on one goal including Richard Ray supported by forwards Adrian Green and Andy Thorley.

Urmston ladies Kate Fields, Sylvia and Beckie Dibben interlinked for the mixed with Ray Adamson, and Ian Entwhistle doing a similar job for the mens team.

Defenders Derek Milne, Simon Davies and goalkeepers the two Mikes, Lockett and Power, vied for top spot with some breathtaking saves and Leroy Sawyers kept the score to about a goal a game in the 16 games played.

A number of the games were closely contested at 2-1, including the one against Nobs and Knockers and with a bit of luck, Urmston could have found themselves in the Tournament trophies.
